En 2005, le conseil régional de Fribourg a enregistré l’inscription au domaine des forêts près de Wyhlen dans le Bade-Wurtemberg. La zone protégée a été désignée par l’ordonnance du Conseil régional de Fribourg du 25 octobre 2018 relative à la définition des zones d’importance communautaire.
L’aire protégée de forêts de 693 hectares près de Wyhlen est située dans les zones naturelles de la vallée du Haut-Rhin et de Dinkelberg. Il se trouve entièrement dans le district de Lörrach, dans les communes d’Inzlingen, Rheinfelden et Grenzach-Wyhlen.
