Tordesillas est une municipalité de la province de Valladolid dans la communauté autonome de Castille-et-León en Espagne.La ville apparaît dans les documents du haut Moyen Âge sous le nom de Oterium de Sellis, « Otero » signifiant « montagne ». Le toponyme fait donc référence à une position géographique particulière sur une petite colline. C'est d'ailleurs cette dernière caractéristique qui semblerait être à l'origine de cette ville qui fut d'abord un rocher fortifié stratégique pour surveiller les terres environnantes.
