Saviez-vous que la ville de montagne insignifiante de Numantia était comme une sorte de village d'Astérix en révolte ? Ils avaient osé se débarrasser du joug romain. Ils ont forcé légion après légion romaine à se rendre ou à battre en retraite avec honte. En 134 av. J.-C., les Romains ont envoyé Scipion Émilien, le principal général de Rome qui a rasé Carthage. Il avait 30 000 soldats, mais il n'a pas combattu. Il a encerclé Numantia. Après plus d'un an, l'approvisionnement en nourriture a épuisé. Lorsque les Numantiens se sont rendu compte que tout était fini, ils ont brûlé leur ville. La plupart d'entre eux se sont suicidés. Numantia est devenue un symbole de l'indépendance et du courage espagnols. Miguel de Cervantes a écrit une tragédie sur cette histoire : "Le Siège de Numantia".
