Le dernier roi de France, Louis XVI, a été décapité sur la Place de la Concorde. Il y a une histoire selon laquelle quelqu'un a sauté sur l'échafaud, a mis ses mains dans le sang du roi et a crié : 'Jacques de Molay, maintenant tu es vengé'. Jacques de Molay était le chef des Templiers au XIVe siècle. Il a été exécuté près de Notre-Dame, accusé d'hérésie. Certains voient dans cet "acte" après la décapitation de Louis XVI un signe que les Templiers ont "survécu" pendant encore plusieurs siècles, voire qu'ils survivent encore en tant qu'organisation secrète.
