Foix est une commune du département de l'Ariège dans la région Midi-Pyrénées, dans le sud-ouest de la France, avec une population d'environ 9 000 habitants. Elle fait partie de l'arrondissement de Foix. La gare de Foix est située dans la municipalité.
Jusqu'à la Révolution française, Foix était le centre du comté de Foix, qui devint par la suite une province française indépendante, le Pays de Foix, correspondant à peu près au département de l'Ariège. À partir du XIIIe siècle, les seigneurs de Foix ont également régné sur le Béarn et s'y sont installés.
