Vernet-la-Varenne est une ancienne commune française, située dans le département du Puy-de-Dôme en région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Elle a fusionné le 1er janvier 2019 avec la commune voisine de Chaméane pour donner la commune nouvelle du Vernet-Chaméane.
Les Vernetois parlent du Vernet-la-Varenne ou, plus simplement, du Vernet, employant un article qui est absent de la dénomination officielle, mais présent sur certains panneaux de signalisation, mais également sur le site Internet de la mairie.
