La Charente est un fleuve français du Bassin aquitain. Prenant sa source à Chéronnac dans la Haute-Vienne à 295 mètres d'altitude, elle traverse ensuite les départements de la Charente, une petite partie de la Vienne, la Charente à nouveau, la Charente-Maritime avant de se jeter dans l'océan Atlantique entre Port-des-Barques et Fouras par un large estuaire.
