Il s’agit de l’étape 19 de la Via Tolonensis, également appelée GR653 en France, l’une des quatre routes principales reliant la France à Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. La route va d’Arles via Montpellier, Castres et Toulouse jusqu’au Col de Somport où elle se connecte aux caminos espagnols.

L’étape de Revel aux Cassés est longue de 17 km et est marquée par les célèbres panneaux rouges et blancs.

L’itinéraire est presque plat et se déroule en grande partie sur un chemin de terre le long d’une rivière artificielle, La Rigole. Après environ 14 km, il y a un restaurant au lac de l’Enclas. Le dernier kilomètre et demi jusqu’aux Cassés remonte de la rivière le long d’un ancien château de Catherine.
