La rivière Rib prend sa source près du village de Therfield dans l'Est de l'Hertfordshire et coule parallèlement à la A10 à travers Chipping, Wyddial, Buntingford, Westmill, Braughing, Puckeridge et Standon, avant de diviser les villages de Thundridge et Wadesmill et de continuer jusqu'à sa confluence avec la rivière Lea près d'Hertford.
La rivière Rib avait autrefois des inondations fréquentes en raison des fortes pluies à l'automne, mais cette propension a été résolue par le dragage et des travaux d'ingénierie dans les années 1970.
Elle était utilisée comme principale source d'eau à Buntingford et dans les environs avant qu'une pompe ne soit installée.
