Les habitants de Sambuca ont toujours été étiquetés avec le nom de « sammucari babbaluciari » (visiteurs d'escargots) ; ils aiment tellement ce nom qu'ils voulaient même la statue de l'escargot (Vittoria) au centre de la Piazza Vittoria (d'où le nom de l'escargot), le long du Corso Umberto I.
Il vise à redécouvrir la valeur de l'inertie , le passage du temps vu par un escargot, vivant sa vie lentement et en profitant dans toute sa splendeur.
Les travaux ont été commandés par le conseil municipal.
