L'église Saint-Gerlach est une église paroissiale dédiée au saint Gerlach de Houthem et est entourée du Château Saint-Gerlach, l'ancienne prévôté et d'anciens bâtiments monastiques. À l'endroit où vivait autrefois le Saint Gerlach de Houthem-Sint Gerlach, un monastère norbertin et une abbaye noble pour femmes ont été fondés peu après sa mort.
Après la mort de Saint Gerlach, des miracles auraient eu lieu près de sa tombe, ce qui a conduit les gens à emporter des morceaux de terre de sa sépulture. Selon eux, cela avait un effet bienfaisant. De nos jours, le sable sacré est disponible pour les croyants sous la tombe de Saint Gerlach dans l'église Gerlachus. L'église possède des fresques uniques et une chambre au trésor.
