Overloon est connu dans l'histoire de la Seconde Guerre mondiale pour "la bataille d'Overloon". À Overloon, début octobre 1944, l'une des plus grandes batailles de chars des Pays-Bas a eu lieu entre la 107e brigade blindée allemande d'un côté et la 7e division de chars américaine et la 11e division de chars britannique de l'autre. De nombreux villages dans cette région ont été complètement détruits.
