La commune de Weert a été récompensée en 2013 par un jury européen en tant que ville la plus verte d'Europe. Un bon coup de pouce pour Weert, mais aussi un bel hommage à ARK Natuurontwikkeling et aux partenaires avec lesquels ARK collabore : Stichting Het Limburgs Landschap, Brabants Landschap, Natuurmonumenten, Staatsbosbeheer,... ARK a été moteur ces dernières années derrière le développement naturel très ambitieux du côté néerlandais de Kempen-Broek.
