Le Cap Nord se trouve du côté nord de l'Emmapolder, à la frontière de la municipalité de Het Hogeland dans la province de Groningen. Le dernier tronçon vers le Cap Nord n'est accessible qu'à pied ou à vélo.
Pour marquer l'endroit et ainsi attirer plus de touristes, la municipalité d'Eemsmond a fait installer en 2002 l'œuvre d'art « La Porte du Ciel » ou « Porte du Cap Nord » de l'artiste René de Boer. Le nom « Cap Nord » a été conçu en même temps que l'installation de l'œuvre. L'endroit même n'est pas identifiable comme « point extrême », car la digue maritime à cet endroit a un tracé légèrement courbé.
