Une zone allongée est située le long de la Nieuwe Maas au pied du pont Erasmus et est caractérisée depuis le tournant du siècle par des gratte-ciels et des équipements modernes. Parmi autres, le Luxor Theatre et la Holland Amerika Lijn se trouvent sur la Wilhelminapier.
En septembre 2014, l'Oasis of the Seas, le plus grand navire de croisière au monde, a accosté au terminal maritime. Pour accueillir des navires de cette taille, le terminal a reçu un nouveau quai. Le reste de la Wilhelminapier est également modernisé afin de permettre à davantage de navires de croisière de s'amarrer à l'avenir.[2]
