Le Rotary International est une association qui rassemble 35 221 clubs au 30 septembre 2015, présents dans près de 200 pays et régions géographiques. L'ensemble de ces clubs Rotary compte au total 1 228 250 membres au 30 septembre 2015 appelés Rotariens.
Le Rotary a été historiquement le premier « club service » créé au monde. L'association, dont le siège se trouve en 2015 à Evanston dans l'Illinois, se présente comme une organisation apolitique et ouverte qui encourage une haute éthique civique et professionnelle et œuvre pour faire progresser l'entente et la paix dans le monde. Sa devise officielle est « Servir d'abord » , et il existe une devise secondaire qui est « Qui sert le mieux profite le plus » .
