Maldegem è un comune nella provincia belga di Oost-Vlaanderen. Questo comune nel nord-ovest della regione di Meetjesland conta oltre 24.103 abitanti da gennaio 2021, di cui oltre 16.000 vivono a Maldegem stesso. Gli abitanti di Maldegem sono chiamati Maldegemnaars. Maldegem ha il soprannome di "la Leale", un nome che ha ricevuto quando Filippo III di Maldegem si distinse nel 1300 per la sua fedeltà al conte fiammingo Gwijde di Dampierre. Successivamente, quel nome è stato adottato da Maldegem stesso.
