Guida cittadina Luc Van Schoors al Manneken-Pis: “Dietro di me c'è il cittadino più anziano di Geraardsbergen, chiamato Manneken-Pis. Ha 160 anni in più del suo cuginetto di Bruxelles.”
“Sono un membro della Fratellanza del Manneken-Pis di Geraardsbergen. Questo si occupa della promozione e protezione della statua. È anche necessario, perché il Manneken ha una storia movimentata,” dice Luc. “Il Manneken una volta era contro il municipio ma quando questo è stato ristrutturato nel 1890, la statua finì in una rimessa di carbone.”
Il Manneken sembrava destinato a una fine oscura. “Ma questo non era stato previsto dagli abitanti di Geraardsbergen. Hanno protestato con forza. La statua è tornata e ha ricevuto un posto contro il chiosco in piazza. Per poi, dopo la demolizione del chiosco, ottenere nuovamente un posto contro il municipio, dove si trova ancora oggi.”
