Meerhout ha una ricca storia di mulini. In ogni frazione c'era un mulino e molte famiglie di mugnai coloravano la vita quotidiana. Quando molti mulini nei Kempen minacciavano di scomparire, Meerhout ha svolto un ruolo di pioniere nella rivalutazione del patrimonio dei mulini fiamminghi. Attualmente il municipio conta due mulini a vento e un mulino ad acqua.
Mulino ad acqua
Sopra l'ingresso di questo edificio restaurato del mulino ad acqua è riportato l'anno 1678 attraverso ancore murarie. In passato il mulino aveva due ruote tramite cui sia la corteccia di quercia che il grano potevano essere macinati. Poco dopo la Prima Guerra Mondiale il mulino forniva elettricità. Quando il mugnaio fermava la ruota la sera, lo segnalava ai suoi concittadini interrompendo la corrente alcune volte. Questo gli valse il soprannome di Peer Plimp.
