Sin dagli anni trenta del secolo scorso vive l'idea di trasformare uno spazio aperto tra Kerkstraat, Normandlaan e Duinenweg in un parco. È stato finalmente realizzato solo nel 1991.
Ci sono state abbastanza idee per questo pezzo di terreno nel mezzo della zona turistica, come una nuova piazza, lottizzare con ville di lusso, parcheggi, una casa di riposo,... ma non si è mai raggiunto un consenso.
Alla fine, nel 1989 è stato costruito il parcheggio accanto al parco. Il parco stesso apre intorno a Pasqua del 1991, ma non ha mai avuto una cerimonia di inaugurazione ufficiale a causa di conflitti interni e politici.
Il parco comunale è aperto tutti i giorni dalle 9:00 fino al tramonto.
