Nel 1909 in questo sito fu eretta una statua dell'umanista, latinista e storico Justus Lipsius (Overijse 1547 - Leuven 1606), professore all'Università di Leuven dal 1592, in sostituzione di una fontana in ghisa che era stata collocata qui dal 1890. È costituito da un alto plinto in pietra blu in stile neoclassico, firmato "J. JOURDAIN - SCULPTEUR" e "H. VAES. V. CRETEN - ARCHITECTES" e da una scultura in bronzo fuso da Felix Van Aerschodt (vedi iscrizione). Il monumento è stato donato alla Città dallo Stato belga in occasione del 75° anniversario della ricostituzione (1834-1909) dell'Università Cattolica di Leuven, si veda la scritta "JUSTO.LIPSIO/ IN.ALMA.UNIVERSITATE/ LOVANIENSI. PROFESSORI/ ADMCMIX .RESTITUAE/ UNIVERSITATIS.LXXV/ LEOPOLDO.II/ REGE. BELGARUM".
