Un primo castello sul feudo di Saint-Fontaine fu distrutto alla fine del XIII secolo durante la famosa guerra delle mucche, combattuta tra la contea di Namur e il principato vescovile di Liegi.
Saint-Fontaine era una signoria sotto la corte feudale di Liegi e apparteneva a Wathy de Cent-Fontaine. Nel 1345 fu venduto a Olivier d'Ohey.
Il castello in rovina fu sostituito da un nuovo castello che andò in fiamme all'inizio del XIX secolo . Il conte Emile de Liedekerke costruì l'attuale castello classico sul sito del castello bruciato tra il 1820 e il 1830.
Costruito in pietra calcarea e arenaria , il castello di Saint-Fontaine ha una forma cubica sormontata da una balaustra in terracotta. Nel parco si trova la notevole cappella di Notre-Dame, edificio romanico del XII secolo.
