Il rinnovamento della spiaggia di Westende è stato realizzato in fasi tra il 2021 e il 2023, con l'inaugurazione festosa della nuova spiaggia verde e della costruzione di attenuazione delle onde (GDU) il 24 giugno 2023. Il progetto fa parte del piano maestro per la difesa costiera. Comprende una combinazione di una diga erbosa e una diga di attenuazione delle onde 'rigida' per una migliore protezione e un lungomare abbellito.
Tra le 2 passeggiate è stato creato un giardino botanico con piante specifiche costiere e salmastre.
