Il Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik Potsdam , già Astrophysikalisches Institut Potsdam , donda la sigla tuttora usata AIP, è un istituto di ricerca tedesco.
L'osservatorio di Potsdam viene considerato il successore di quello di Berlino. Su proposta di Leibniz, il principe elettore Federico I di Prussia aveva fondato a Berlino nel luglio 1700 la Brandenburgische Societät . Due mesi dopo gli introiti del monopolio dei calendari fornirono i fondi per costruire un osservatorio astronomico, di cui fu nominato direttore Gottfried Kirch. Gli introiti del calendario nazionale, basato sui calcoli dell'Osservatorio, rimasero una fonte finanziaria per la stessa Accademia fino all'inizio dell'Ottocento.
