Il Collegium Marianum I è stato fondato nel 1616 dai Gesuiti come scuola di latino a Neuss. Per il suo orientamento era un piccolo seminario, ma nel schema istituzionale dell'arcidiocesi di Colonia non era considerato un seminario, ma piuttosto una scuola arcivescovile.
