La chiesa di San Maria in Francoforte è stata l'ex chiesa parrocchiale principale della città ed è stata costruita in più di 250 anni di attività edilizia medievale. L'edificio ecclesiastico è uno dei più grandi esempi di architettura gotica in mattoni del Nord Europa; è lungo 77 metri e largo 45 metri. La chiesa fu in gran parte distrutta durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, ma in seguito è stata ricostruita nelle sue linee fondamentali. Oggi la chiesa di San Maria è un centro socio-culturale e un simbolo della città.
