La fabbrica di bricchetti "Hohenzollern" si trovava nel nord-est della città termale di Bad Liebenwerda, nel Brandeburgo meridionale. Fu fondata tra il 1889 e il 1890 sotto la direzione dell'imprenditore Carl Schwabach, che è considerato uno dei fondatori dell'industria regionale del carbone lignitico.
Gli edifici ancora esistenti erano simili nella loro struttura e disposizione a quelli della fabbrica di bricchetti a pochi chilometri di distanza, a Beutersitz. Nel maggio 1890 la fabbrica fu messa in funzione. Era rifornita di carbone lignitico dalla miniera profonda "Daniel" di Rothstein tramite una funivia lunga circa 6,5 chilometri, azionata da una macchina a vapore di 23 cavalli.
