Grünewalde è una frazione della città di Lauchhammer nel distretto di Oberspreewald-Lausitz, nella regione meridionale del Brandeburgo. Si trova a circa 3 chilometri a nord-ovest del centro città lungo la strada statale 63 nel parco naturale della pianura di Niederlausitz.
Grünewalde è stata menzionata per la prima volta nel 1418 in un documento di concessione del margravio di Meißen e successivo elettore di Sassonia Federico IV, come "Grunenwald". Il nome del luogo è probabilmente interpretato come "nel bosco verde" o "al bosco verde". Le versioni successive del nome del luogo sono Grunewalt, Grunewalde, Grünewalda e infine Grünewalde. Come forma dialettale del nome del luogo sorabo è stato usato Seln Drewo, cfr. il sorabo inferiore zelene drjewo, "legno verde".
