Il lago Heinersdorfer si trova a circa 40 chilometri a est di Berlino, vicino alla B5 a Heinersdorf, una frazione del comune di Steinhöfel nel Brandeburgo. È diviso da un argine stradale in Lago Heinersdorfer Piccolo e Lago Heinersdorfer Grande. L'area totale dei due laghi è di circa 80 ettari.
Le acque sono state formate durante l'era del ghiaccio di Vistula e rappresentano i resti di un precedente bacino idrico più grande. Si tratta di laghi eutrofici senza afflusso diretto. Geologicamente, appartengono all'unità principale della regione naturale della Piattaforma dell'Est del Brandeburgo.
