Il paese di Boblas si trova a circa 4 km a sud della città di Naumburg, ai margini della regione collinare di Löss intorno a Zeitz e Naumburg, un'estensione della pianura di Lipsia. Il comune di Boblas fa parte del Geo-Naturpark Saale-Unstrut-Triasland.
La fondazione e l'origine del luogo Boblas non sono conosciute. La grafia del nome Bobeluz o anche Poblitz suggerisce una fondazione slava. Il nome del paese è derivato da Bob e Luce. Questa interpretazione è supportata dal fatto che il fiume Kugelbach in passato formava nelle vicinanze del villaggio prati paludosi, che scomparvero solo in seguito alla bonifica e disboscamento.
