Il Falkenstein è una delle formazioni rocciose indipendenti più impressionanti nella Svizzera sassone nello stato libero di Sassonia. Si trova vicino a Bad Schandau, nelle Schrammsteine, di cui è in primo piano. La maestosa roccia è alta quasi cento metri ed è composta da arenaria. Nel medioevo c'era una torre di guardia sul Falkenstein – ancora oggi sono visibili scalini e travi scolpiti nella roccia.
Probabilmente sin dalla metà del XIV secolo, il Falkenstein è stato ampliato e utilizzato come torre di guardia. Apparteneva, come quasi tutta la Svizzera sassone a destra dell'Elba, al dominio di Hohnstein con sede nel castello di Hohnstein, che la famiglia nobiliare boema dei Berka di Dubá ricevette nel 1353 dall'imperatore Carlo IV come feudo boemo.
