La piccola area protetta si trova al margine del campo di addestramento militare di Senne e presenta caratteristiche tipiche del paesaggio di Senne: nel suolo sabbioso a basso contenuto di nutrienti crescono praterie sabbiose e erica, mentre tra gli alberi dominano betulle e pini. Il paesaggio di brughiera è caratterizzato da un'alta diversità di specie. Al margine settentrionale, in tempi passati, la sabbia è stata estratta fino allo strato di marna sottostante. Nella cava si accumula acqua in alcune zone, favorendo la crescita di specie che amano l'umidità e i terreni argillosi.
