Karlstein è un villaggio nel comune di mercato di Regenstauf nel distretto di Regensburg in Baviera. Karlstein è stato fino al 1978 la sede del comune omonimo.
Il nome del luogo può essere derivato dalla fortezza di Chadolth. I primi signori di Karlstein erano i Hofer von Lobenstein. Prima del 1381, la proprietà fu dato in pegno ai Leuchtenberg, che nel 1393 ricostruirono il castello. Qui si trovava originariamente il castello medievale di Karlstein, che è stato completamente ricostruito dall'attuale edificio del castello dei secoli XVI e XIX.
