Fu commissionata da Don Francisco de Garay, un compagno di viaggio del primo viaggio di Cristoforo Colombo che poi divenne governatore di Giamaica. I viceré Diego Colón e María de Toledo vi abitarono brevemente mentre si costruiva l'Alcázar. Durante i tempi dell'incursione di Francis Drake, in questa casa fu posta la bilancia dove dovevano essere pesati i beni che gli abitanti dovevano consegnare al corsaro.
