La Plaza di Spagna è uno dei luoghi emblematici della capitale, nella piazza si trova il Museo Alcázar di Colón, mentre il Museo delle Case Reali è in Calle Las Damas, a pochi passi dalla piazza.
Questo spiazzo si trova sul lato orientale della zona coloniale. Una statua di Nicolás de Ovando, fondatore di Santo Domingo, si trova qui come tributo ai suoi successi. La piazza è circondata da case coloniali squisite e ristoranti che servono l'élite.
