La strada inizia a 9 km a sud di Burgos sulla Autovía A-1. Si dirige a sud-est attraverso la Sierra de las Mamblas, salendo sopra i Mazariegos e passando per Muela. Prosegue attraverso le montagne verso Soria, attraversando il Puerto Mojón Pardo con la Reserva Nacional de Urbión nella Sierra de Urbión a nord, salendo fino a 2.229 m. Questa catena montuosa è anche la sorgente del fiume Duero.
