L'ultimo re di Francia, Luigi XVI, fu decapitato in Place de la Concorde. C'è una storia che racconta di qualcuno che saltò sul patibolo e mise le mani nel sangue del re e gridò: 'Jacques de Molay, ora sei vendicato'. Jacques de Molay era il capo dei Cavalieri Templari nel XIV secolo. Fu giustiziato vicino a Notre Dame, accusato di eresia. Alcuni vedono in questo "atto" dopo la decapitazione di Luigi XVI un segno che i Templari "sopravvissero" per molti altri secoli, o addirittura continuano a sopravvivere come organizzazione segreta.
