Il Bagne di Tolone era la prigione nota a Tolone, Francia, resa famosa come il luogo di detenzione del fittizio Jean Valjean, l'eroe del romanzo di Victor Hugo I Miserabili. Fu aperto nel 1748 e chiuso nel 1873. Il bagne fu creato da un'ordinanza del re Luigi XV il 27 settembre 1748 per accogliere i condannati che erano stati precedentemente condannati a remare nelle galere della flotta mediterranea francese. Il decreto stabilì, all'articolo 11, "Tutte le galere nel porto saranno disarmate, e le chiourmes saranno tenute a terra nei bagni, nelle sale sorvegliate o in altri luoghi che saranno designati per la loro detenzione." Il nome 'bagne' deriva dalla parola italiana bagno, o "bagno", il nome di una prigione a Roma che era stata in precedenza una piscina romana. Altri autori indicano una prigione a Livorno.
