Richard de Clare, sesto conte di Gloucester, morì presso il maniero di John de Criol ad Asbenfield a Temple Waltham il 14 luglio 1262 all'età di 39 anni; si diceva che fosse stato avvelenato a tavola da Piers di Savoia.
Durante e prima del regno di Edoardo III, la parrocchia di Waltham si trovava all'interno del cento di Bridge. Dopo la fusione di alcuni centi, alla fine del XIX secolo, la maggior parte della parrocchia si trovava all'interno del cento di Bridge e Petham. Dei due constabili per il cento consolidato, l'attuale monarca era il signore del tribunale annuale che sceglieva un constabile per il cento di Bridge.
