Oliver Sacks ha conseguito la laurea in medicina presso questo Queen's College nel 1960. La sua storia di vita divenne famosa con il film "Risvegli" con Robert De Niro e Robin Williams. Nel 1966 iniziò a lavorare come neurologo presso la struttura per cure croniche del Beth Abraham Hospital nel Bronx. Mentre era lì, lavorò con un gruppo di sopravvissuti dell'encefalite lethargica della malattia del sonno degli anni '20, che non erano stati in grado di muoversi da soli per decenni. Il suo trattamento di quei pazienti divenne la base del suo libro Risvegli.
