Le forze congiunte dei parlamentari inglesi sotto il comando di Lord Fairfax e del conte di Manchester e dei covenanti scozzesi guidati dal conte di Leven sconfissero i realisti comandati dal principe Rupert e dal marchese di Newcastle.
