Il fiume Chater è un fiume nelle East Midlands dell'Inghilterra. È un affluente del fiume Welland e misura circa 22 miglia di lunghezza.
Nasce vicino a Whatborough Hill nel Leicestershire e poi scorre verso est, passandosi il Castello di Sauvey e l'Abbazia di Launde, prima di entrare nel Rutland. La Valle di Chater è un Sito di Interesse Scientifico Speciale biologico di 3,8 ettari a nord di Loddington, Leicestershire. Il fiume continua verso est, a nord di Ridlington, Preston, e poi a sud di Manton e a nord di Wing. A nord-est di South Luffenham, è attraversato dal Morcott Brook. Continua a nord-est, passando sotto la strada A6121 a Foster's Bridge e attraverso Ketton, prima di incontrare il fiume Welland vicino a Tinwell.
