Il Katla è un grande vulcano dell'Islanda, importante sia per le sue dimensioni che per l'intensità delle sue eruzioni.
È localizzato nel sud del paese al di sotto del ghiacciaio Mýrdalsjökull, la sua ultima eruzione avvenne nel 1918. La sua caldera ha il diametro di circa 10 km ed erutta con una cadenza variabile tra i 13 e gli 80 anni, l'eventuale nuovo fenomeno è perciò piuttosto in ritardo e il cratere risulta costantemente monitorato. A partire dall'anno 920 si sono avute 17 eruzioni documentate. Il Katla fa parte di un sistema vulcanico più vasto , centrato sul vulcano Grímsvötn e che include inoltre il vulcano Laki e la fossa vulcanica di Eldgjá.
