Il Ponte Vecchio è un ponte che scavalca il fiume Arno a Firenze, a circa 150 metri a valle dell'area in cui il fiume presenta naturalmente uno dei punti in cui l'alveo è più stretto all'interno della città nel suo tratto a monte delle Cascine.
La denominazione fu conferita a quello che era il più antico ponte fiorentino nel momento in cui fu costruito il ponte alla Carraia, detto allora "ponte Nuovo" in contrasto con il pons Vetus. Oltre il valore storico, il ponte nel tempo ha svolto un ruolo centrale nel sistema viario cittadino, a partire da quando collegava la Florentia romana con la via Cassia Nuova voluta dall'imperatore Adriano nel 123 d.C.
