Adagiata sulle sponde del lago di Lugano, Porlezza è una rinomata meta turistica, soprattutto nella stagione estiva; è tuttavia molto frequentata anche in primavera e in autunno, stagioni nelle quali la cornice naturale delle Prealpi si riempie dei colori della ricca flora locale.Vi si può arrivare sia attraverso la Svizzera, costeggiando il Ceresio da Lugano in direzione nord-est, sia restando in territorio italiano, percorrendo la Strada statale 340 Regina fino ad Argegno per poi attraversare la Val d'Intelvi, oppure fino a Menaggio da dove parte la deviazione per Porlezza passando per l'omonima valle.
