È la città, dopo il capoluogo, con più abitanti nella provincia di Vicenza e riconosciuta a livello internazionale per essere la capitale mondiale degli Alpini, titolo meramente onorifico ricevuto nel 2008 dalla stessa Associazione Nazionale Alpini a celebrare il suo monumento più noto, il Ponte Vecchio detto anche "degli Alpini". Con deliberazione del Consiglio comunale cittadino nº 88 del 30/11/2021 viene identificata come "Città degli Alpini".
