La battaglia degli Altipiani fu una battaglia combattuta tra il 15 maggio e il 27 giugno 1916, sugli altipiani vicentini, tra l'Imperiale e regio esercito austroungarico e il Regio esercito italiano, durante la prima guerra mondiale. La battaglia, scatenata dagli imperiali, venne in seguito impropriamente denominata dagli italiani come Strafexpedition, che si traduce dal tedesco in italiano come "spedizione punitiva", ma non è noto alcun documento storico austriaco che riporti tale termine.
Già da tempo il capo di stato maggiore austro-ungarico, generale Conrad von Hötzendorf, propugnava l'idea di un'offensiva condotta a fondo sul suolo italiano che colpisse letalmente l'ex-alleato, reo di avere tradito la Triplice Alleanza, e negli anni precedenti aveva fatto esplorare la frontiera con l'Italia per studi, ancora teorici, sulla possibilità di una guerra d'invasione.
