La battaglia di Fornovo ebbe luogo il 6 luglio 1495 durante le Guerre d'Italia. In essa si affrontarono l'esercito di Carlo VIII di Francia - composto da francesi, mercenari svizzeri e un nutrito contingente di italiani - e quello della Lega Antifrancese - formato dagli eserciti di Milano e Venezia, per la gran parte composti di mercenari, italiani, albanesi, dalmati, greci e tedeschi, ma anche da alcune unità di leva. Lo scontro, breve ma sanguinoso , ebbe un risultato incerto.
La battaglia di Fornovo fu uno scontro di tipo ancora medievale, in quanto né le armi da fuoco né la guerra di movimento delle fanterie vi ebbero un ruolo determinante.
