La Lituania , ufficialmente Repubblica di Lituania , è uno Stato membro dell'Unione europea, confinante a nord con la Lettonia, ad est con la Bielorussia, a sud con la Polonia e a sud-ovest con l'exclave russa dell'Oblast' di Kaliningrad, mentre ad ovest è bagnata dal mar Baltico.
I primi insediamenti nel territorio dell'odierna Lituania si formarono dopo l'ultima glaciazione nel decimo millennio a.C. I Proto-Indoeuropei, che arrivarono tra il terzo e il secondo millennio a.C., si mescolarono con la popolazione locale, formando così le tribù Baltiche.
