La Veluwe è il più grande complesso morenico dei Paesi Bassi: 60 km da nord a sud, con un'altezza massima di 110 metri. La Veluwe si è formata circa 200.000 anni fa durante l'era glaciale Saalina nel Pleistocene. I ghiacciai spessi circa 200 metri strinsero i depositi di sabbia lateralmente nel Delta del Reno e della Mosa. Queste divennero le colline che oggi costituiscono la maggior parte della Veluwe. Poiché le colline sono costituite da sabbia, l'acqua piovana scompare rapidamente, e scorre a una profondità di decine di metri ai margini dove riemerge di nuovo.
